Psalm 42:1-11
When problems and cares of this life seem overwhelming, we can always trust to find refuge. We find this refuge in the Word of God. In these verses in the Bible, the psalmist is overwhelmed emotionally. The mood swings and mental turbulence are like the undercurrent of the sea. They sweep him under. From the very depths of his soul, he cries out. He questions, ‘O my soul, why are you disquieted within me?’ He decides to hope in God. He understands that God is his refuge and strength in times of need.
Sometimes we do not know why we feel discouraged, depressed, or sad. During those times, we should consciously decide to focus on God. We should put our hope in Him and draw on His strength. We can expect the grace that He will show us.
